What Are Treatments Like?

Each patient presents a unique clinical picture to the practitioner and receives acupuncture and/or herbal medicine suited to his or her specific patterns.  Acute conditions may be alleviated very rapidly, while chronic conditions can often take longer to rebalance themselves.  Initially one or two hour-long sessions each week is recommended, and a full series of treatments is generally considered to be between ten and twelve visits.  Suggestions regarding changes in lifestyle and diet may also be given to enhance the healing process.

The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture and traditional Oriental medicine's ability to treat over 40 common disorders.  The following is a partial list:

• Gynecological disorders such as irregular, heavy or painful menstruation, infertility in women and men, and pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS).
• Disorders of the bones, muscles, joints and nervous system, such as arthritis, migraine, headaches, neuralgia, insomnia, dizziness and low back, neck and shoulder pain.
• Emotional and psychological disorders including depression and anxiety.
• Eye, ear, nose and throat disorders.
• Gastrointestinal disorders such as chronic diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, gastrointestional weakness, anorexia and gastritis.
• Urogenital disorders including stress incontinence, urinary tract infections, and sexual dysfunction.
• Resporatory disorders including sinusitis, asthma, allergies and bronchitis.
• Addictions to substance like alcohol, nicotine and drugs.
